Solar Farm
A Charlotte company plans to build a solar facility in northeastern North Carolina that would generate enough energy to power 2,800 homes. Solar Green Development plans to build the $85 million solar farm near the Perquimans-Chowan County line. Perquimans County commissioners have approved a permit for the solar farm, which is expected to generate 20 megawatts of energy, The Daily Advance reported. Solar Green vice president Shelley Layden says the company hopes to start construction and have solar panels in the ground by the end of this year. Layden says additional solar energy projects are planned for three other sites in Perquimans, Pasquotank and Chowan counties. Perquimans also is working with Pasquotank County on a 20,000-acre wind energy project.(THE DAILY ADVANCE, 9/21/11).
