Civil Rights Icon Congressman John Lewis to Join McIntyre at Black History Commemoration
On Sunday, January 30, U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre will host U.S. Representative John Lewis of Georgia at the annual Southeastern North Carolina Black History Month Celebration
in Wilmington.
Congressman Lewis, who is often referred to as “one of the most courageous persons the
Civil Rights Movement ever produced" represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional district and
was first elected in 1986. Among the many honors the Congressman has received include the only John F. Kennedy "Profile in Courage Award" for Lifetime Achievement ever granted by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation.
This year’s event will be held from 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Wilmington City Hall Council Chambers located at 310 Chestnut Street in downtown Wilmington.
African-American elected officials from all levels of government from throughout southeastern North Carolina are expected to attend. The public is invited to join this special celebration. This is the fourteenth consecutive year that Congressman McIntyre has hosted this special event.
Applications are now being accepted for New Hanover County's first Citizen's Academy
The 10 week course is designed to educate participants about the operations involved in the variety of services provided by New Hanover County. This course will be held Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. starting January 27, 2011 and ending March 31. Click Here to read more.

Cape Fear Coalition of Concerned Citizens (CFC3)
Due to the recent excessive increases in homeowner insurance rates, The Wilmington
Regional Association of REALTORS® has formed a citizens' group called The Cape Fear
Coalition of Concerned Citizens (CFC3). CFC3 is seeking to include a broad array of
private/public entities and individuals who share concerns over issues affecting the
Cape Fear Region's future. CFC3's mission is both to raise awareness and serve as the
Region's collective advocate on those issues.
